What was I thinking?

This is the story of a girl who either thinks too much, or doesn't think enough. Either extreme leads to great embarrassment.

How do you myki?

I use public transport every weekday, and often on weekends (derr). Should I just bite the bullet and start paying for seven day thingamabobs? Is that what you do, fellow train travellers? Should I maybe pay for a month, considering I’ll have a put money on every week for another seven days? Should I pay for longer than a month? WHAT.

HELP ME I DON’T LIKE THIS SYSTEM?

The longer your pass duration, the cheaper your travel is in the long run per day. Try to figure out how many weeks or days you know that you will be traveling almost every day and buy a pass for that duration (if you can afford it).

Chuck Klosterman’s latest novel, The Visible Man.

The protagonist, a pedantic and mostly unlikeable scientist, spies on people by wearing an invisibility cloak he stole from a defunct government agency. He uses its powers to watch people when they’re alone at home for what he claims to be scientific research – he believes people are only truly themselves when they know no one else is watching.

The audience is left to consider this question themselves: when I’m alone, what would people see?

_________

  • When I’m alone, I often dress up, blast my music and dance in my bathroom.
  • When I’m alone, I like to read and get lost in a realm of fiction and fantasy.
  • When I’m alone, I spend a lot of time thinking about love and romance; a mixture of personal experiences and those depicted in literature and cinema.
  • When I’m alone, I like to write poems. Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes they don’t.
  • When I’m alone, I obsess over my skin in the most maladaptive fashion.
  • When I’m alone, I drink tea and eat with my hands unless a knife or fork is truly necessary.
  • When I’m alone, I sing and pretend my hairbrush is a microphone.
  • When I’m alone, I go for runs because I feel like walking will never get me anywhere.
  • When I’m alone, I think about my faults and how I can be a better person.
  • When I’m alone, I don’t clean until I need something.
  • When I’m alone, I don’t wear pants (but I do wear underpants).
  • When I’m alone, I like to read positive quotes and think about what they mean to me.
  • When I’m alone, I think about people I don’t see anymore, more than I think about people that I do.
